About

Sohar Aluminium was formed in September 2004 to build a greenfield aluminium smelter in Sohar and is jointly owned by OQ SAOC, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and Rio Tinto. The smelter has an annual production capacity of 395,000 tonnes, shipped its first export in July 2008 and was officially inaugurated in April 2009. It won His Majesty the Sultan's Award for Industrial Excellence in 2021.
